About Us

It is tragic to realize that way too many elderly people’s lives have been cut short due to falls sustained in nursing homes. It is even more tragic to realize the majority of these falls could have been prevented but were not. The purpose of this web site is to educate all people about nursing home falls, how falls can be prevented, and what family members should do when their loved ones fall in a nursing home. We dedicate this web site to the memory of nursing home residents who have passed away from complications of injuries they sustained from falls. It’s time to bring these tragedies to an end. Falls in nursing homes have killed too many residents.

According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are three leading causes of deaths from unintentional, preventable injuries (accidents): drug overdose, a motor vehicle crash, and a fall. Falls for working adults can occur at home and at work, resulting in injury, disability, or death. In 2016, about 9.2 million people were treated in emergency rooms for fall-related injuries.

For older adults, falls are more devastating and critical, being the #1 cause of death for this population. However, most elderly people are less likely to fall and sustain serious injuries from a fall at home when it has been “fall-proofed” or when they are surrounded by a loved one or a private home health aide. Look at how 3 million older adults are treated in emergency departments each year for fall injuries according to this article, Fall Safety: Take Steps to Remain Independent Longer. As mentioned above, falls can happen in nursing homes -- even the best nursing homes.
